HELIOS Participated in EU–Japan Workshop on Hydrogen Combustion Technologies

The HELIOS project was presented as one of seven flagship initiatives at the 2nd EU–Japan Workshop on Hydrogen and Ammonia Combustion Technologies, held on 25–26 March 2025 in Kobe, Japan. Organised by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership in collaboration with Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), the workshop brought together representatives from government, industry, and research to strengthen international collaboration in clean hydrogen combustion.
The event marked the second in a series of workshops following the signing of the EU–Japan cooperation agreement on hydrogen technologies in June 2024. It focused on advancing technical progress and fostering joint efforts to accelerate the deployment of hydrogen and ammonia combustion systems in industrial applications.
HELIOS is proud to stand at the forefront of this effort, helping to shape the next generation of hydrogen combustion technologies and playing an active role in Europe’s transition to sustainable, low-carbon energy systems.
The workshop highlighted the feasibility of hydrogen combustion across a wide range of operating environments and reinforced the shared objective of achieving 100% hydrogen compatibility for gas turbines, boilers, and burners. It also identified common technical and regulatory challenges, providing a foundation for continued collaboration between European and Japanese stakeholders.
The Clean Hydrogen Partnership is supporting a portfolio of seven projects focused on hydrogen combustion technologies, representing a total investment of €33.15 million across a range of technology readiness levels (TRLs). HELIOS is part of this strategic selection and contributes to the development of solutions required to support Europe’s energy transition and climate neutrality objectives.
